Karen (excerpt)

This narrative/experimental short is based on the Junk Lady, a peripheral character in Jim Henson's seminal 1989 film, Labyrinth.

Karen was made during my time at the Recology Artist in Residence program in San Francisco, California. All the puppets, sets, and costumes were made from thrown away toys, fabric, appliances, and other objects scavenged from the public disposal and recycling area at Recology.

"There is an unbroken line of police violence in the United States that takes us all the way back to the days of slavery, the aftermath of slavery, the development of the Ku Klux Klan...There is so much history of this racist violence that simply to bring one person to justice is not going to disturb the whole racist edifice.” - Angela Davis
